Annual cycling rally is ready to go

THE club where double Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton began here career hosts its 26th annual cycling rally next weekend.

Hosted at Riverside Middle School, Mildenhall, the rally begins on Saturday, August 25, and runs until Bank Holiday Monday.

With a mixture of fun and competitive rides, as well as added entertainment, the club will sign off a successful summer that saw ‘golden girl’ Pendleton crowed the women’s keirin champion at London 2012.

During the three-day event there is free entry and free parking everyday with the option of camping at the site for a fee starting at £18, from 4pm Friday until 7pm Monday.

The rally is ‘known across the UK as one of the biggest and best public trade shows for cyclists’ with there set to be over 30 sporting companies and organisations represented at Riverside this year.

Within the fun-filled weekend there is a cycle jumble in the trade marquee — a place for visitors to sell any unwanted cycling parts.

Competitive events, such as grass track racing, organised by Max Pendleton — father of Victoria — allow under-16s to showcase their talent in front of an audience, combined with the exhilarating but unusual madison cyclo-cross.

Touring events like the audax rides ranging from 57km to 300km routes on Saturday offer cyclists a unique chance to ride across the countryside, which is being offered by the Suffolk District Association of the Cyclists’ Touring Club.

On Sunday, there will be a circus skills workshop making sure the everyone has a ‘juggling good time’ and a children’s entertainer on Monday while the parents are enjoying the trade show.
