Nowton ease to win over weakened side
Nowton 1st XI, sponsored by Frames Conservatories Direct, entertained Battisford last weekend.
The late-arriving visitors could only muster nine players, and forfeited the toss, as Nowton took first use of a good pitch. However, they soon encountered the rapid H Puchert, who reduced Nowton to 47-3 by bowling Danson, Godden and Howes.
Crucially, Nick Chadwick was dropped before he scored and he and Dave Meeson put on 134 in 16 overs, taking advantage of some erratic second-string bowling.
On Meeson's departure, Chadwick continued to flay the attack, crashing 16 fours and eight sixes in his 92-ball 131.
Puchert returned to clean bowl the tail, to finish with 6-36, although Ben Toulson batted well in his first game since returning from Down Under.
Chasing 276, Battisford began well, with 34 coming from the opening three overs.
Penny holed out to skipper, Simon Lord, on the long-on boundary. Puchert showed his promise with the bat as the visitors' 100 came up in the 14th over.
Following an expensive opening over, Mark Turner dismissed Doughty (19) and Puchert (59), and the experienced medium pacer ran through the rest of the innings, finishing with 6-36 – identical figures to Puchert – as Nowton eased home by 119 runs.
