Needham Market finished 40 runs short as they suffered a shock defeat to bottom-of-the-league Halstead II.
Halstead batted first and looked like they were on for at least 300 as the top three attacked everything that was bowled at them.
Jon Matthews (4-58) and Andy Burgess (2-41) got Needham back in the match with intelligent bowling, but an unbroken 10th-wicket partnership of 46 put the hosts in a strong position at the interval.
Needham found the experienced Halstead bowling attack difficult to score off.
Simon Mortimer (49), Andrew Teague (33) and Chris Jeffreys (24) were the pick of the batsmen as they finished 40 runs short.
n Needham Market’s Sunday side were beaten at Brantham in Suffolk Alliance Section B.
Mark Dye picked up the only wicket to fall in Brantham’s 209-1, but youngsters Jake Dye, Rhys Griggs and Adam Sewell all bowled well against the quality batting of Harry Parkes (99no) and Adrian Stockton (87no).
Brantham were given a fright as the home team pushed hard for victory, but they came up 18 runs short.
Simon Mortimer (55), Stuart Ward (41no) and Kevin Folkard (35) made sure the team could be proud of their performance.
