ROYAL Hospital School Holbrook, hosted the Suffolk Schools Cross Country final. Competitors were looking for county titles and qualification to represent Suffolk in the Anglian Schools Championships.

Thirty members of West Suffolk Athletic Club’s endurance squad had qualified through two previous rounds to this event.

In the minor age group (school years six and seven), Nella Walters (Culford) won the girls’ race.

Megan Newton (Stour Valley) placed third with new members Polly Peate (Barnardiston) and Olivia Allum (Culford) with fourth and seventh respectively.

Mikayela Sealby (Westley) was 13th, with a big improvement from Jevony Hall (Culford) in 19th. Katrina Kemp 21st and Holly Singh 39th (both Westley) completed the WSAC runners.

Claudia Spencer-Hall (Culford) had to pull out but should still secure selection to the Anglian Schools.

Thomas McCarthy (St Louis) placed an excellent fourth in minor boys. Jess Walters’ (Culford) 10th should ensure his place in the Suffolk team.

Ruben Kirin (Westley) ran to 31st and St Louis duo, Seb Burnett-Wells and Tommy Martin, were close behind in 36th and 38th.

In the junior girls (year eight and nine), Sophie Tooley (Beyton) and Holly Davies (Needham Market) were well clear of the rest of the field.

Suleika Horrocks (St Louis) was 22nd, and newcomer Elisha Smith (KEDS) 30th. Hannah Goldthorp (KEDS) 35th and Lily Shalev (Westley) 36th.

Ben Eames (Castle Manor) chased hard for second in junior boys. Christy Williams (St Louis) ran a solid 15th. Jacob Freeborough (Scaltback) was below his best but persevered to 27th.

Beth Tooley (Thurston) finished strongly for seventh in inter girls (Years 10&11). India George (KEDS) placed a solid 13th. Lauren James (St Benedicts) finished an encouraging 26th.

A close three-way sprint to the finish saw Cameron McKie (Hartismere) repeat his winning performance in inter boys.

Michael Bartram (County Upper) finished an excellent fourth while Seb Anthony (KEDS) ran to seventh place.

Sprinter Tom McDonald put in a sterling effort for 29th.

In the senior girls (years 12 and 13), Katie Duncan (KEDS) had her best result with a superb third. Grace Waters (County Upper) finished 10th from limited training.

Mac Delo (West Suffolk College) recorded an emphatic win in senior boys. Simon Dawson (County Upper), winner in the previous round, was a comfortable second.

Adam Cripps (Thurston) ran consistently to seventh and Jack Anthony (KEDS) 15th from minimal training.

The runners now await the announcement of teams to represent Suffolk at the Anglian Schools Championships, to be held on February 4.
