King Edward sixth form student Callum Wilkinson clocked the staggering time of six minutes and 38 seconds to win the Eastern Indoor One Mile Walk Championship at Lee Valley Athletic Centre on Sunday.
With the exception of former Portuguese international Fransisco Reis (7.31) Wilkinson lapped the entire field to record, which subject to confirmation is believed to be a stadium and Eastern Counties record.
What made the performance even more impressive is the fact that the promising athlete is currently in the middle of a demanding winter regime.
Another athlete to excel at the championships was 12-year-old Maisey Snaith who won the 300m event in her first attempt competing at the distance.
Having won her heat in 43.93 seconds, Snaith, who is ranked fourth in the Under-15 age group, went even faster in the final, finishing in a time of 43.53.
