West Suffolk battle it out among the medals

West Suffolk Athletics Club travelled to The 2013 South of England Cross Country Relay Championships and clinched three team medals.

One such success came in the Under-17s Men race where the team of Michael Bartram, Cameron McKie and Seb Anthony were 22 seconds ahead of their rivals to claim gold.

There was further success for the Under-15 Girls who produced the closest and most exciting finish. Sophie Tooley led from the start before Nella Walters kept the lead with Lauren Murphyjust being overhauled in the closing stages to clinch silver.

In the Under-13 Girls, Olivia Allum got the A team off to an excellent start and was supported superbly by Katrina Kemp and Rebecca Daniel to ensure a bronze medal.

Despite no further medals being won there was plenty of positive results.

For the Senior Women, Maureen McCarthy, Celia Duncan and Christine Anthony claimed an 11th place finish, while Emily Moyes, Bronwyn Jacobs and Charlotte Murphy just missed out on a bronze in the Under-17 Women’s race.

The under-15s Girls team of Mikayela Sealby, Megan Newton and Holly Davies took 14th with Emma Jobbins and new member, Elizabeth Jackson holding on for 33rd.

Claudia Spencer-Hall got the Under-13 B team off to a solid start with Libby Walshe and Alana Wilson bringing the team home in 14th.

Lola Goodall was disappointed with her opening leg for the C team, but Caitlin McKie managed to salvage a 28th final position.

In the Under-17 Mens event an incomplete team of Ben Eames and Matt Le Poidevin sealed 12th, while for the Under-15 Boys, Adam Crawford, Joel Morris and Josh Walker finished in 22nd.

In the Under-13 Boys race, Cameron Ackroyd led off for the A team and with fine support from Thomas McCarthy and Adam Newton sealed a respectable 12th place finish with the B team of Hayden Lawrence and Jess Walters battled to a promising 17th place overall.
