Walker-Hebborn into second Commonwealth final

Men’s 100m backstroke gold medallist Chris Walker-Hebborn eased into his second Commonwealth Games final.

The Bury St Edmunds-born swimmer recorded 24.92 seconds to reach the final of the 50m backstroke, which will take place in Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Sunday night (8.59pm).

He was just behind Ben Treffers in the event’s second semi-final to qualify second fastest for the final, having earlier set the quickest time in the heats with 25.12 seconds.

Less than 24 hours earlier, Walker-Hebborn had finally made his breakthrough at a major championships by taking 100m backstroke gold in a Commonwealth Games record time.
