Thousands of cyclists will flock to the Mildenhall Cycling Rally this weekend with a full campsite expected for the first time in three years.
Organisers are anticipating nearly 400 camping pitches to be filled by cyclists from across the UK on the playing fields of Mildenhall College’s Sheldrick Way site.
Anyone else who wishes to take part is urged to make sure they book their place now as popularity increases.
Mark Burchett, chairman of organisers Mildenhall Cycling Club, said: “The rally is known throughout the UK’s cycling community as one of the best all-round cycling weekends that appeals to cyclists of all ages and especially families.”
The weekend will consist of a variety of cycling events with the usual grass-track races taking centre stage.
Saturday is devoted entirely to younger riders in response to the large amount of young entrants, while senior cyclists will contest racing on the Sunday and Monday.
Events include the madison cyclocross, duathlons and triathlons for all ages, while the Cyclists Touring Club Suffolk have organised 50, 100, 160, 200 and 300-kilometre audax rides.
The event will include a trade show, giving visitors a chance to buy cycling equipment, and the popular rally quiz night.
Other attractions, such as the tabletop cycle jumble on Saturday, have already sold out.
The rally is set up to be open to all, whether they come from a cycling background or not.
Parking and entry are free along with children’s activities in the form of a bouncy castle, face painter, Adam Strange with his magic and puppet show and a circus skills workshop on Monday.
The gathering will be monitored by the safer neighbourhood team of Suffolk Police in Mildenhall as they will give out security advice while the Mildenhall club will offer a range of touring leaflets to encourage people to cycle in new places.
