BURY St Edmunds Under-14s Boys squad capped off a successful season this week by being crowned Essex Youth League champions.

They earned the three victories they needed, following up a comfortable 7-0 victory over Whitham with an important 3-0 win over Stortford, before sealing their champion status with a 12-0 success over Colchester.

The same squad also finished second in the England Hockey Under-14 club competition along with Cambridge City, Old Loughtonians and Horsham.

Bury Under-12s Boys also made it through to a regional finals, but fell short of making the final as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the semi-finals to eventual winners Harleston.

The team made it through to the semi-finals after drawing 1-1 to the Blue Hornets of Essex, losing 2-0 to Hertfordshire before beating Norwich City 3-2 and Cambridge City 7-0.

James Gibbs, Oscar Cubitt, Peter Hodgson, Finn Milbank and Oscar Butcher all performed strongly.

Elsewhere, the Bury’s under-10 girls – consisting of Hannah Pamplin, Alana Banks, Martha Dunlop, Kate Bastow, Milly Finbow, Emma Williamson, Ellie Costin, Libby Walsh, Lottie Adams and Jessica Konrath – performed well in the regional round of the In2Hockey tournament narrowly missing out a final appearance.

In their five matches, they recorded three victories, beating Upminster 2-0, Broxborne 3-0 and Wisbech 4-0, claimed a respectable 0-0 draw with Norwich and lost narrowly 1-0 against eventual winners Canterbury.
