In an exciting finale to the last weekend of the Suffolk County Championships, Stowmarket Swimming Club added to their impressive tally.
Held at Crown Pools, Ipswich, Stow earned two silver medals from their relay races, while 14 swimmers achieved British age group (Bagcat) awards.
The two silver medals were achieved by the boys’ teams in the 11 and 12 years age category, for both the 200m freestyle and medley relays.
Stow overcame Thomas Clare slipping off the wall to take silver in the medley with Ollie Pyle, Manfred Battle and Jack Spain, while Nick Borrett, Pyle, William Debenham and Spain took second in the freestyle relay.
Battle achieved the second highest score in the Bagcat 11 age category, followed closely by Thomas Clare in third position.
Five male swimmers in this age group finished in the top 10, with Debenham seventh, Luca Clarke eighth and Jack Chevin 10th.
In other age groups, Bagcat awards were achieved by Logan Pyle (eighth in boys’ 10 years), Amy Davies (seventh in girls’ 11 years), Bethany Skoulding (10th in girls’ 11 years), Jack Spain (fourth in boys’ 12 years), Borrett (11th in boys’ 12 years), Alex Harrison (fifth in boys’ 13 years), Calvin Coe (eighth in boys’ 14 years), Chloe Long (sixth in girls’ 13 years) and Chloe Allen (10th in girls’ 13 years).
Other highlights from the weekend included Battle and Rob Lancaster achieving regional times in the 400m freestyle while Amy Davies, Bethany Skoulding, Clare, Debenham, Long, Clarke and Coe all achieved personal bests in this gruelling long distance event.
Overall, Stowmarket Swimming Club finished fifth out of 13 clubs in the county rankings.
