Stowmarket won the Suffolk Open volleyball tournament on Sunday to complete a historic indoor and outdoor double.
After a straight sets victory against Bedford in the final, Stow claimed the title and became only the second team in the tournament’s history to win both indoor and outdoor events.
The sixth annual Suffolk Open — hosted by the Suffolk Volleyball Association — attracted 22 teams from the eastern region and beyond to Chilton Fields in Stowmarket at the weekend.
Bury Bobcats Seniors joined Stowmarket in the Division One competition and lost a deciding set against Ipswich VC Moles in their first match.
Stowmarket were also involved in a three-set match to begin their campaign and came from a set down to beat GNG Bedford Grasshoppers.
Bury finished fourth in the event after Ipswich were 2-0 winners in the third-place play-off.
Stow won the final against Bedford, 21-19, 21-15, to make history after both sides had won the rest of their pool matches.
In the Division Two final, the US Air Force team based in Lakenheath defeated Norfolk’s Pegasus 15-11, 15-10.
Lakenheath stalwart Ken Novak ended his involvement in the event with a win after he revealed that his posting in the United Kingdom had come to an end.
Bury Bobcats Juniors beat Ipswich Ravems, but lost their other four matches in Division Two.
