Five boys from St Louis Middle School competed for the Suffolk cross country team in Lincoln on Sunday, with two of them qualifying for the All England Cross County race.

Thomas McCarthy finished second in Suffolk in the minor boys’ race, while Jeremy Snudden finished fourth in Suffolk in the junior boys’ race.

The two younsters will now travel to Derby in March, pitting themselves against the best cross country runners in England.

Having finished in the top 16 in the Royal Hospital School race in September, the boys went into the race with high hopes of qualifying for the final, a feat which they duly achieved.

Damian Wallace, a teacher at St Louis, said: “It was a bit of a shock for some of them but they did well. Overall it was a good experience for them and they all really enjoyed themselves.”
