Bowler Matthew Smith brought a national title home from Skegness.
As winner of the Suffolk EBF Secretaries Singles Championship, the Elmswell resident qualified for the national finals in Skegness.
A comfortable first-round win was followed by a much more challenging match, but he still came through it 21-20.
In the semi-finals, Smith — who is secretary for Ixworth Bowls Club — met another very experienced competitor to eventually win 21-18.
In the final, Smith again played strongly to win 21-13 against the Nottinghamshire champion.
Earlier in the week, he played for Suffolk in the Southern Area versus the Northern Area team championship for the Adams trophy.
The Suffolk first team had convincing wins in all their inter-county matches during the season to become Southern Area Champions.
The national final was hard fought against a strong Derbyshire side, but Suffolk proved to have the edge and came away with the trophy.
Smith, 26, is one of the youngest bowls club secretaries in the country, but there are a good number of younger people enjoying lawn bowls both locally and at national level.
The many Suffolk clubs are always pleased to welcome younger players, just as Smith has received help and encouragement from the Ixworth club members.
