Shooting star Sam Green cemented his place among the nations best last weekend after winning the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) British Open Sporting Championships.
The 23-year-old from Wretham, near Thetford, beat off stiff competition to take the title at Hepworth Hall, Essex, in an event that attracted an impressive 1,400 entries.
After the day’s shooting, Green and fellow competitor Mark Winser were forced to take their battle down to a tense final shoot-off, after they both finished level on 111 clays.
And it was Green who held his nerves, shooting clear of Winser, missing only one of the additional 10 targets to be crowned the overall champion.
In doing so he was presented with a prestigious Zoli ‘Z Gun’ donated by championship sponsors Edgar Brothers as well as scooping a £1,250 welcome windfall in prize money.
