Thetford Golf Club’s junior captain Dean Scott completed a tremendous comeback against John Ward in the final of the Cock Pheasant knock-out competition to be crowned champion in what was the highlight of the club’s Finals Weekend.

One down with two holes to play, Scott went on to win the par-three 16th, before an eagle on the 17th was followed by a par on the final hole to snatch the trophy by one hole in the battle of the left-handers who are regular partners in the club’s
Cullington Cup team which has reached the county final.

The Roy Lawrence Trophy, for the four-ball better-ball winners, went to Peter Griffiths and Shaun Langham, who saw off the challenge of Matt West and Matt Wabe 3&1.

Matt West did have the consolation of winning the Cowan & Oliver 36-hole final against Peter Allott on Saturday, but Janice Fossey was unfortunate to lose both ladies’ finals.

Jessica Dixon carried off the Ladies’ Championship on Saturday and Abigail O’Riordan won the Ladies’ Handicap Cup on Sunday.

It was Dixon’s third Club Championship title after wins in 2012 and 2013.

The Krumrine Trophy is for qualifiers from both men’s and ladies’ competitions, and in this year’s final Sue Pitcher beat Pam Ellis 4&2.

Mike Horley was the winner of the Cock Pheasant Plate and Phil Beer and Sharon Caws won the mixed knock-out event to win Keith’s Coasters, beating Roger and Vicki Smith at the 19th hole of a very closely-fought final.

On Monday Thetford hosted the Runyard Trophy, a tournament for old boys and girls of schools in Suffolk and Norfolk.

The winners were Old Framlinghamians
(Framlingham College), with Old Norvicians
(Norwich School) the
runners-up.

The winning team comprised Peter Howard-Dobson, Martin Lamb, Richard Lee-Warder, Michael Spencer, Robin Anderton and Norman Mayhew.
