Stowmarket reclaimed the Suffolk Cup from Newmarket — the team that took it from them in 2012 — in the finale of the indoor volleyball season.

Stow had also seen off Newmarket in the 2011 final as the two heavyweights of Suffolk volleyball clashed in the showpiece for the third consecutive year.

Stowmarket started the match at Newmarket Leisure Centre strongly, racing into a 7-1 lead in the first set off the serving of Kevin Kent.

Despite strong hitting from Newmarket’s Rob Dovaston, Stowmarket continued to dominate the set as Newmarket struggled to deal with Jack Watson and they took it 25-13.

With the introduction of powerful hitters Pete Gale and Slim Tlili, Newmarket were a different proposition in the second set.

Stowmarket had the lead initially, but eventually lost it 25-21 after Newmarket introduced Gabielle Corliano as setter.

Having led the third set 12-6 thanks to quick attacking play from Itamar Koren, Stow were a set point down before rallying to take it 26-24 and they remained in charge through the fourth to win it 25-16 and clinch the trophy.
