ICKWORTH House’s iconic rotunda provided a magnificent backdrop to the final round of the Mud Sweat and Gears Cross Country Mountain Bike Series.

Five West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon club members took on the course, set in the estate grounds, that was physically demanding, consisting mainly of open grassy tracks interspersed with more technical wooded sections.

Despite the misfortune of losing his chain during the Under-12 Boys’ category race, Matthew Whitwell recovered to a earn a well earned 18th place out of a field of 30 riders.

Four of his club mates lined up in the afternoon race (1.5 hours), where Matthew Eaglen recorded the quickest average time, finishing 29th out of 50 riders in the Veteran category, with Paul Barry placing 42nd.

In the Sport category, Matthew Soame finished 22nd with Jeremy Waterson 26th out of 34 riders.
