Stowmarket’s Emily Moyes represented Junior Team GB at the Loughborough International, learning a valuable lesson about racing.

The 18-year-old competed in the 3,000m steeplechase, where she fell heavily at the first barrier.

But the West Suffolk Athletics Club (WSAC) athlete got back on her feet and eventually finished second.

She has already achieved the European Under-20 qualifying time for the Championships in Grosetto and awaits the selectors’ decision.

Club member David Cripps said: “She learnt some useful lessons about running steeplechase when the rest of the field can keep up, experiencing running in a crowded race at pace.

“It was clear that it was exhausting and a bruised knee was doubtless impeding her barrier technique and the pace took her trademark finish — but it was an important race.”
