Sam Asker produced a podium finish in the male juvenile race at the latest Mud Sweat and Gears Series mountain bike race at Carver Barracks, near Saffron Walden, Essex.

The West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club members was followed by Rhys Holland-Jones in eighth.

Robin Lines continued the good form with a fine 10th in the youth race.

In the grand veteran Race, Paul Watson was sixth, while Malcom Borg — riding in the sport male category — was 35th.

In the open male category, Garth Collier finished 21st with Dick Lines 58th.

Richard Holland-Jones had to retire on lap two.

n Two teams featuring West Suffolk Wheelers took part in the Kings Lynn 25-mile 2up Time Trial on Saturday.

Wheeler David Young and Bury St Edmunds-based Team VeloVelocity’s Ben Mickleburgh posted a respectable one hour 11 minutes 45 seconds for sixth.

Wheelers Mark Eastwood and John Steed finished a place behind in 1.12.45.
