West Suffolk Wheelers endured a hard day’s racing and a step up in class as the National League made its way to Hog Hill.

In the under-8s, Victoria Asker did well to secure second place in a tough race with some of the best girls in the country in attendance. In the Under-12 race, Fraser Elsworth and Sam Asker were competing.

A random draw for places saw Asker start from the back of the field and, due to an accident directly in front of him at the start, he never made it into the relative shelter of the bunch and spent the race chasing them down.

Elsworth, starting at the front of the field, avoided the chaos and managed to stay with the bunch for over half of the race, being dropped towards the end as the pace built.

In the under-14s, Matthew Asker showed good speed up the hills, but the quality of the field was such that he retired towards the end of the race after being lapped by the leaders.

Meanwhile, Richard Farrow won his third successive club time trial, posting the fastest time in the Horringer 7.5tt on April 18.

Thirty-nine riders took part in the race which starts at Brookes Corner before heading to Hargrave, through to Depden, Chedburgh and finishing along the main road.

Lee Sturman, back after a road race crash on the previous Sunday, finished in 18.22, second place finisher was Paul Rooke, who recorded 18.11 and winning the event was Richard Farrow, with a time of 17.55.
