A host of West Suffolk Swimming Club members travelled to Luton for the Regional Youth Championships and returned with medal success.

The competition was held over three days, with the best swimmers from Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, and Hertfordshire battling it out for regional finals places and medals.

Among those was Lana Mo and Beth Mottram who battled it out for silver in the 16-years 200m breastroke final with Mo taking second by less than half a second, while just outside the medals, was Beth Mottram.

The final two events of the finals session on Saturday saw the boys 4x100m medley relay team including Myles Turner and Ben Wilkinson, finish in seventh with the girls 4x100m freestyle relay team including Mo and Mottram finishing ninth.

On the Sunday, Turner was back in action in the 400m Freestyle event, finishing seventh in the 15 years age group, while Hannah Brecknell made it into the 50m backstroke final, finishing eighth.

Mo and Mottram put themselves in position to battle for more medals in the 100m breastroke event finishing second and fifth respectively, but Olivia Nicolai missed out by one place.

In the boys 200m breastroke, Turner set a new personal best time, finishing ninth in the 15 years age group, while in the girl’s 100m buterfly event, Mottram claimed another finals spot, finishing in seventh.

Meanwhile, Ben Wilkinson swam a new personal best (pb) time in the 50m freestyle with a ninth-place finish but missed out on a place in the finals.

In the afternoon session, Turner achieved a new pb in the boys 200m backstroke event, taking third place going into the finals.

Mo continued her dazzling form by booking her place in the girls 100m freestyle event finishing eighth, while Ollie Pyle earned himself a second swim in the final after setting a new pb time.

In the finals, Brecknell missed out on a medal, finishing joint seventh in the 50m backstroke, but Mo added to her growing collection with silver in the 100m breaststroke.

Mottram finished just over a second away from the medals and was quickly back in action for the 100m butterfly final where she finished sixth.

Meanwhile, Turner finished fifth in the 200m backstroke final, 10th in the 100m backstroke and sixth in the 200m freestyle.

Mo claimed an eighth-place finish in the 100m freestyle final and rounded off her competing alongside Mottram as the pair finished eighth as part of the 4x100m medley relay team.
