Juniors impress in triathlon event

West Suffolk Wheelers juniors were out in force with 14 triathletes competing in the Ipswich Junior Triathlon as part of the Eastern Region Championship hosted by Ipswich Triathlon Club at Framlingham College.

Of those Wheelers taking part, Charlie Knowler impressed to secure first place in the Tristar One event, while clubmate Myles Taylor gave a promising performance in the youth race to earn a hard fought third place.

Full placings as follows: Tristar 1 (age 9-10) (swim 120m/bike 2km/run 1.2km): Charlie Knowler (1st) (12 minutes and 26 seconds), Thomas Verzijl (10th) (14.47), Hugo Thorneley (11th) (14.55), Thomas Curtis (14th) (15.47), George Possnett (18th) (17.16), Jacob Taylor (20th) (19.21), Libby Mills (15th) (21.43).

Tristar 2 (age 11-12) (swim 200m/bike 4km/run 1.8km): Oscar Woodward (12th) (22.44), George Cain (21st) (27.28), Annalise Verzijl (15th) (27.57), Amy Mills (17th) (28.26).

Tristar 3 (age 13-14) (swim 280m/bike 6km/run 2.4km): Johan Hasselder (11th) (31.03), Catherine McKeag (12th) (33.49).

Youth (age 15 -16) (swim 400m/bike 8km /run 3km): Myles Taylor (3rd) (33.23).

n Elsewhere, four club members took part in the final round of the Victoria CC 10.2 mile time trial.

David Howes was first home in a time of 26 minutes and 49 seconds followed by Ron Back (27.23), David Young (27.53) and Jim Greenwood (28.46).
