EASTGATE boxers were in action at their home show at Bury Town FC, winning three of their four contested bouts, with Jake Dykstra taking the award for junior boxer of the evening.

Dykstra’s accurate counter-punching was the main factor in securing a majority decision over the stronger, come-forward style of Max Seymour from the Harwich club.

The bout of the evening was between Dewy Taylor and North Hertfordshire’s Gaurav Saroye, with both receiving an eight count during this all-action contest. The Eastgate boxer came on stronger, throwing body to head combinations in the last round to gain a unanimous decision.

Ricky Zdrenka proved a handful for North Hertfordshire’s George Luis. While Luis showed good counter-punching skills throughout, Zdrenka always had the upper hand.

Tommy Taylor found Reading’s Faraz Rahiami in good form, with the latter getting the better of the exchanges in the last round to take the decision.

The programme started with skill bouts, where Eastgate’s 12-year-olds Ryan Day and Sam Williams gave good accounts of themselves against Charles Curtis (Allcomers) and George Stephenson (Billericay).

This was the club’s final show of the season, with the next show planned for Great Whelnetham in October.
