The 2014 Annual Tarpley 10/20 took place on Sunday at Beyton Middle School, hosted by St Edmund Pacers.
An overcast day with strong winds did not deter almost 600 runners taking part.
There were outstanding individual and team performances in both distances.
The course record was broken by Scott Harrington (Otley Athletics Club) in the men’s 10-mile race with a superb time of 54 minutes 29 seconds.
In a strong field, the results for Pacers in the men’s 10-miles race were: 3 Oscar Partridge (57.04), 5 Tom Kingsnorth (58.30), 13 Thomas White (1.02.19).
Their combined scores ensured the Pacers were the first placed team in that competition.
In the ladies’ 10-mile race, the Pacers placed first, with Nichola Brinkmann (1.05.35) taking individual honours, followed closely by Angela Joiner-Handy (1.08.51) in third and Emily Gooderham (1.19.18) in 11th.
The runners in the Tarpley 20 bravely fought strong winds along a seven-mile open stretch of country roads.
In the ladies’ race, the Pacers were victorious, with Anna Clayton (2.39.25) seventh, Melissa Clarke (2.40.45) eighth and Chloe Jennings (2.43.25) 11th.
In the men’s race, the Pacers’ entrants finished as follows: 23 Roger Manton, 35 Nick Smith, 43 Alan Dawson.
n The Pacers would welcome new members to their training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays (6.30pm) at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre’s athletics track.
