After the beautiful sunny conditions that had been experienced for most of the week, Sunday started rather differently for St Edmundsbury Sailing and Canoeing Association’s club racing meet.

In the first race of the Spring Series, Jon Holmefjord (Laser) and Carl Day (Enterprise), crewed by Alan Shaw, got off to a good start and led around the first mark.

Mike Steele (Laser) caught up and these first three continued to trade places for most of the race, before Holmefjord eventually claimed the win by two seconds from Steele with the Day/Shaw team coming in a close third.

Sheila Norman had a good race in her Laser 4.7, only losing out to the faster boats when the wind went light on the far side of the lake.

The second race proved to be similar to the first, with numerous place changes but Holmefjord came through again to take the win, with Steele second from Day/Shaw. Martha and Isabella Gurney did well in their first race outing in a Topper.

Steele did claim victory in the third and final race from Holmefjord, who claimed the overall victory.

Sunday sees the club host its Antigua Sailing Day Regatta. The event, which coincides and celebrates Antigua Sailing Week in the Caribbean, will involve a large contingent from the Newmarket and Mildenhall Sea Cadets.

Lunch time entertainment is being provided in the form of a three piece steel band. Visitors and spectators welcome. Further details can be found at www.westsufolksailing.org.uk.
