Eastgate Amateur Boxing Club’s Grassroots Show proved to be a big success once again, with 36 bouts contested during the event.
Clubs travelled from across the country to take part at Great Whelnetham Community Centre and there were a large number of skill bouts for young boxers at early stages of their career, with many showing their skills in a contest for the first time.
Local young boxers Freddy Barnby, Tommy Flack, Kaleb Robertson-Howard and William Price all showed well-honed skills in their evenly-matched contests.
In the experienced contests, both host club boxers Ryan Day and Paul Price lost on close decisions
However, in the main bout of the day, former national schoolboy finalists Jake Dykstra put in a tremendous display against London-based Kris Singh to gain a well-deserved victory against an opponent who had beaten him two years ago.
Dykstra’s well-timed attacks and speed of punch were the deciding factor against a well-schooled opponent from the Lion Club in London.
