Bury St Edmunds’ first-ever American football team, Bury Saints held their first training session last week as the team continues to take shape.

More than 40 prospective players turned up for the session, with the hope of building a squad ready to feature in the UK Independent Development Conference Competition with three other teams from Portsmouth, Plymouth and London in the summer.

And after seeing the original Bury Brewers team break down, before renaming, head coach Chris Wallis was delighted to see his ambitions plans finally take shape.

“Things are looking a lot brighter at the moment,” he said.

“It was great to finally get out on the field.

“There is a lot of hard work to go to get the basics right but it is brilliant to start building a team in reality.

“We are not getting carried away but things are certainly looking promising.”
