Bury St Edmunds residents Marcus Lee, Steve Banthorpe, Richard Larcombe, and Dominic Roe undertook a mammoth 72-hole golf challenge last week, all in aid of Macmillan Cancer.

Dubbed the Longest Golf Day, the foursome teed off at 4am at The Suffolk Golf and Country Club in Fornham on Friday and undertook the four games, helping to raise more than £3,000 for the charity.

“It was Steve’s idea and we were all happy to join in as it was for such a worthy cause which can help so many people,” said Lee. “It was such a brilliant day and couldn’t have gone any better.

“Everyone around the course were fantastic and really kept us going.

“We also have to thank the club itself and particularly their professionals Stephen Hall and Simon Byford who were brilliant with us.

“Beating our target of £2,500 just made the day even better and it is definitely something we would do again in the future.”
