Eastgate Boxing Club member Jimmy Fell safely sealed his England Boxing Deveopement Championships quarter-final place after a unanimous points decision victory over Tony Sheen.
In an all-action affair, the 21-year-old forced his Clacton-based opponent to take two standing counts in rounds one and three, but did not have the bout all his own way as he had to take a standing count of his own in the final round following a flurry of punches.
However the setback did not ultimately cost Fell, who claimed the decision and will now go on to face Southern area champion Edwards Haradine at the Talk Night Club in Norwich on October 18.
Fell is also in action on Sunday and will be joined by Rougham-based club mates Tommy Flack, Sam Williams and Andy Jones in an inter-county select meeting between Suffolk and Essex at Sudbury Boxing Club.
Eastgate will also be hosting a dinner show on Friday, October 24 at Whelnetham Community Centre. Dinner tickets are available from Mick Bryant on 01284 850683. Standing tickets will be available on the door.
