Excellent catches for braving cold

Have your say

Those who braved the weather last week where rewarded with some excellent catches at Blackdyke Trout Fly Fishery.

The best rainbow was caught by Jan, estimated at the 8lb mark, while Malcolm Foreman had a superb 5lb brown.

Lures, fry patterns, blobs and buzzers were working well.

The fishery is offering 25 visits, with two fish a visit catch and release included on the day, for £300.

Christmas gift vouchers are available from the lodge for a day’s fishing at £26 each, four fish included, valid for six months. Contact the lodge on 07525 730447.

Last week again saw numerous fish being caught at Larkwood, in the mid-weight range between 4lb and 7lb.

Two 7lb fish were taken by regular anglers Roger Deed and Lloyd Thompson.

Lloyd also had another fully-finned rainbow of around 6lb, which was then returned to the lake.

The fish have gone down a bit in the colder weather, so fast intermediate or slow sink lines, using small brightly-
coloured lures being most successful and a slow figure-of-eight retrieve.

Participants in the beginners’ course last week did well, with everyone catching.

Bookings are now being taken for the Christmas period. Tackle can be provided if needed or, for those lucky enough to receive some for Christmas, bring it along and the fishery will set it up and show you the basics.
