End-of-season celebrations for Thetford Dolphins

Thetford Dolphins celebrated their season’s achievements at their end-of-season presentations.

Thirty Dolphins qualified for and took part in the 2014 Norfolk County Championships, which Thetford hosted over the first two weekends in March.

Of the 177 swims by Dolphins in the championships, there were an impressive 120 personal bests (pbs) and 10 club records.

Although Thetford missed out on titles, they achieved four second-place finishes, 11 thirds, nine fourths, 11 fifths and 10 sixth places.

The swimmers who achieved top-six places in their age groups were: Alfie King (200m backstroke, third; 50m backstroke final, third; 50m breaststroke final, fourth; 50m butterfly final, second; 50m freestyle final, third; 200m freestyle, fourth; 100m IM, fourth), Amie Copp (50m breaststroke final, sixth), Annie Clark-Massey (50m butterfly final, second in age group and sixth in open final); Daniel Clark (50m butterfly final, third; 100m IM, second; 200m IM, sixth), Grace McGill (100m backstroke final, fifth; 200m backstroke, fourth; 100m butterfly final, fifth; 200m butterfly, third; 100m IM, sixth; 200m IM, fifth); Jacob Clarke (100m backstroke final, fifth), Luke Collins (100m backstroke final, third; 100m breaststroke final, fourth; 200m breaststroke, fifth; 50m breaststroke final, fifth; 100m freestyle final, fifth; 200m freestyle, sixth and 100m IM, sixth).

Club record breakers were: Alfie King (200m backstroke and 200m freestyle), Amie Copp (50m breaststroke), Annie Clarke- Massey (50m butterfly), Luke Collins (100m backstroke) and Grace McGill (200m backstroke, 200m freestyle and 200m IM).

Three Dolphins also took part in the 400m freestyle event at Wymondham, with Alexandra Ashley finishing in sixth place with a pb and club record.

Alfie King was third with a pb and club record and Daniel Clark achieved fourth and a pb.

Presentations were also made to swimmers who competed in the County Relay Gala, which took place at Sportspark UEA on March 29.

The Dolphins finished fifth out of eight teams overall. The team comprising Grace McGill, Amie Copp, Annie Clark-Massey and Alexandra Ashley achieved a club relay record in the junior 4x50m medley relay when finishing fifth.

The boys’ team of Alfie King, Daniel Clark, Ross Clarke and Charlie Trowell gained two club records in 9/10 year 4x50m freestyle relay and 4x50m special relay, finishing in second place in each.
