ROUGHAM-BASED Eastgate Amateur Boixing Club put on a knockout show last week as they held their its annual May Dinner Show at Bury Town’s Ram Meadow.

Eastgate’s 10-year-old Crimea Price, on his debut, showed some good skills in the first contest of the evening against Liam Finley from Trumpington in a no-decision Skills Bout.

Ryan Day of the host club was in the ring next to give the crowd an excellent display of boxing against a spirited Ryan Ducker from Chatteris winning on a unaminous decision.

Eastgate’s Jake Dykstra, Tommy Taylor and Sam Williams came up against tough opposition in Zac Chaima of Finchley , Ernie Rutherford from Orpington and Dean Baxter of Chatteris respectively, in what were all hard-fought bouts with all the decisions going to the visitors .

However, there was better news for Ricky Zdrenka, from the host club, who brought the crowd alight with a hard-earned victory over Markos Mylozis from Wisbech.

Zdrenka, having lost a close decision a week previously to his opponent at Chatteris, persued Mylosis endlessly forcing his opponent on the ropes.

The 22-year-old Wisbech boxer came back, throwing solid shots of his own, but with both boxers showing signs of tiredness in the final round, Eastgate’s 33-year-old stalwart, proved his worth gaining the judges majority verdict.

This earned him the ‘Boxer of the Night Award’, presented by Glenn Edwards from Getaway Cars Ltd.

Meanwhile, Lithuanian Catlin Botean based with the Hanwell Club gained a close decision over the host club’s Dewy Taylor, who put in a gallant display against a very solid puncher.
