County Upper School’s teams finished in first and second place in the Suffolk Schools’ Golf Association Team Championships.
As well as the joy of clinching the top two positions in the competition, both have also qualified to represent the county in the national final, to be held on July 9-10 at the National Golf Centre in Woodhall Spa.
The competition, held at Rushmere Golf Club for teams of three with the best two scores counting, was played from the white tees on a day when the wind proved difficult.
A total of 21 teams who were representing 18 schools from around the county took part.
Just seven competitors managed to better their handicaps, with three players scoring 37 points – Alex Earle (County Upper A) 38-point, Ben Aves (County Upper A) and Jaimee Hurren (Claydon A) both had 39 points, but the outstanding score of 45 points came from Ali Read (County Upper B).
This, together with Jordan Allen’s 33 points gave CUS B victory by one point from CUS A with Claydon A a further two points behind.
The next SSGA event is the Western Area competition, which is being sponsored by Ransome/Jacobsen, and held at Haverhill Golf Club on July 2.
