Chris misses out on semis

BURY St Edmunds-born swimmer Chris Walker-Hebborn failed in his bid to reach the semi-finals of the World Championships by just 0.11 seconds.

The former 200m backstroke British record holder completed a miserable week in Shanghai yesterday morning by finishing 17th of the qualifiers for his specialist event – just one place outside the semi-final spots.

On Monday, Walker-Hebborn was eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the 100m backstroke event.

The 21-year-old was just under half a second outside the time needed to qualify for the semi-finals.
