THE fishing at Blackdyke has been challenging this week, but it improved at the weekend, with yellow dancers on an intermediate line giving the best results.

Chris Sympson had his personal best rainbow — a nice 8lb 8oz — which was returned and entered into the Trout Masters competition.

Competition: Iain Barr Airflo World Bank Masters. Information is available on www.iainbarrflyfishing.co.uk

Entry is set at £25 with airflo line and pack of IBFF flies.

Second or more entries £22, no goody bag.

The first heat will be held on Saturday, February 25, 30 spaces are available catch and release.

n LARKWOOD have had an unusual week for the time of year, with most fish being taken on a dry fly — daddy long legs and CDC emergers — the best bet.

Other good flies have been black buzzer and hare’s ear fished in the surface film.

The smaller sized flies can be used as the lakes are gin clear.

The best areas to fish have been Lodge Bay, in West Stow Lake, while in Glebe Lake, the fish are well spread and can be caught almost anywhere.

The largest bag this week was by Matt Bradbeer, with 13 fish up to 3lb 8oz.
