West Suffolk Athletics Club’s under-20 men picked up a gold medal at the South of England Cross Country Relay Championships in London.
Teams of three ran laps ranging from 2,000m for the under-13 and under-15 age groups to 2,500m for under-17 women and 3,200m for other races.
Mac Delo (10 minutes 20 seconds), Cameron McKie (11.07) and Seb Anthony (10.20) guided the team to gold, with Delo and Anthony recording the second fastest time of the day.
The under-17 women also took home medals after winning silver thanks to the performances of Sophie Tooley (8.12, the fastest leg of the day), Holly Davies (9.00) and Charlotte Murphy (8.29), while Emily Moyes (9.07) and Bronwyn Jacobs (9.53) raced for the incomplete B team.
New squad member Inese Avsejeva (12.40) had an impressive debut in the senior women’s race with a superb third on the opening leg, and veterans Christine Anthony (13.21) and Maureen McCarthy (13.11) guided them to eighth overall.
Ben Eames picked up seven places on the final leg to put the under-17 men’s team eighth after opening legs from Jacob Freeborough (12.03) and Adam Crawford (12.05).
The under-15 girls’ A team of Lauren Murphy (7.37), Mikayela Sealby (8.07) and Megan Newton (7.35) were ninth, while Claudia Spencer-Hall (8.13) and Katrina Kemp (8.05) raced for the incomplete B team.
Niall Ackroyd (7.01), Thomas McCarthy (7.33) and Phil Crutchlows (7.53) took the under-15 boys’ A team to 13th, while the B team of Josh Walker (8.11), Cameron Ackroyd (7.39) and Joel Morris (8.08) placed 23rd.
Adam Newton was the lone runner for the under-13 boys and clocked 7.58 for 25th.
The under-13 girls’ A team were 32nd thanks to the efforts of Alex Ginns (9.15), Caitlin Vizor (9.24) and Chloe Cavill (9.08), while Alan Wilson (8.57), Libby Simpson (10.11) and Lyddia Marshall (11.05) took the B team to 37th.
