EAST MEN’S LEAGUE

DIVISION THREE NORTH EAST

Bury St Edmunds 1

UEA 4

Bury St Edmunds suffered a blow to their promotion campaign after suffering a 4-1 home defeat to UEA on Saturday.

The visitors started well and took an early 2-0 lead, before Bury were dealt another set-back when Steve Jackson went off with an injured shoulder.

Nick Ciappi was dismissed to leave Bury with 10 men, but that spurred them on to pull a goal back.

However as the hosts pushed for an equaliser UEA hit back on the break twice to take home the points.

Bury (third) look to get back to winning ways when seventh-placed Harleston Magpies III visit tomorrow (3pm).

In Division Four North East, Bury St Edmunds II stretched their winning run to three matches with an impressive 1-0 win at Norwich City V.

Lee Godbold’s deflected effort in the second-half was the difference, after David Chang’s earlier goal had been chalked off.

Bury (fifth) visit Newmarket II (sixth) tomorrow (3.30pm).

Bury St Edmunds III were also victorious in Division Five North East, thrashing Norwich Exiles 8-1 on Saturday, and opening up a four point gap above the fourths who were not in action.

The thirds host bottom-placed Pelicans V (12pm) and the fourths travel to Norwich Dragons IV tomorrow (2pm).

In Division Six North East, league leaders Bury St Edmunds V extended their unbeaten run to 17 matches, beating Norfolk Nomads 2-0.

Bury scored twice after a goalless first-half to maintain their unbeaten record in the league and are 10 points clear at the top.

The leaders host Norfolk Nomads II on Saturday (10am), while Bury St Edmunds VI return to action with a trip to Watton II (2.30pm).

Watton are one point behind sixth-placed Bury ahead of the Division Seven North East clash.
