Bury St Edmunds’ Phil Congdon will join up with the Great Britain men’s eight squad for the European Rowing Championships in Belgrade later this month.
Newcomer Congdon has been drafted into a nine-strong line-up plus cox, from which eight will be chosen to race.
The crew includes five Olympic medallists — Pete Reed, Will Satch, James Foad, Matt Langridge and cox Phelan Hill — who are joined by Congdon, Oliver Cook, Matt Gotrel, Mat Tarrant and Scott Durant.
“It’s a new one for me,” said Congdon, speaking to the British Rowing team website. “Last year was the first year I got into the team.
“I came in quite late and jumped into the middle of it so it’s interesting to see it build up right through the winter and see the crews come together.”
Garboldisham’s Lucinda Gooderham has been selected for the women’s quadruple scull.
