Oli Basey-Fisher took another step towards his dream of racing in Le Mans after
securing a drive in the British GT Championship.

After agreeing a deal with Academy Motorsport this week, the Great Finborough-based racer will compete in the prestigious series as partner to former mentor Matt Nicoll-Jones during the 2014 season.

Basey-Fisher, 18, will share a Ginetta GT4 with the former GT4 Class champion during the Avon Tyres-sponsored championship campaign.

“This is the perfect stepping stone I was looking for this year,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to gain experience in GT racing, while also keeping my career progression in the right direction.”

Basey-Fisher claimed the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta G5 Challenge title last year in an academy squad mentored by his new racing partner Nicoll-Jones.

“To be able to partner Matt (Nicoll-Jones) this year is simply fantastic,” the youngster said. “He helped me win the Ginetta G5 Championship title last year, so to now race alongside him will benefit me greatly.”

The teenager has his sights set on a professional career in endurance racing and has raised more than a few eyebrows so far during his short time in the sport already.

Basey-Fisher moved into car racing two years ago after winning the Ginetta Junior Scholarship.

The Suffolk teenager graduated into the Ginetta G5 Challenge a year later, which was when he began to be tutored by Nicoll-Jones.

A campaign that included four race victories and 10 further visits to the podium followed to help secure the title.

The 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship gets under way on Easter weekend at Oulton Park, Cheshire, with the two season-opening one-hour races scheduled for Monday, April 21.
