Abbeycroft Leisure have announced two sports awards as more people get the chance to take part in achievement awards in West Suffolk.

Suffolk’s largest leisure trust, Abbeycroft Leisure, this week announced it will be holding sports awards for both St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath.

St Edmundsbury Sports Awards is in its 10th year but it is the first time Abbeycroft Leisure has staged sister awards in Forest Heath.

The leisure trust is seeking nominations across 11 categories for the St Edmundsbury Sports Awards and the Forest Heath Sports Awards, including Sports Personality of the Year, Individual Achievement and Triumph Over Adversity categories.

For the first time, members of the public will also be able to attend the award ceremonies to celebrate their local sporting heroes, as well as pay tribute to the volunteers who support them.

Both awards are being sponsored by Greene King with local companies being invited to sponsor the individual awards themselves.

Abbeycroft Leisure chief executive Warren Smyth said: “St Edmundsbury Sports Awards is now celebrating its 10th year and we are looking forward to a great event. As our trust has expanded over the last year, and taken on new facilities in Forest Heath, we thought it fitting to hold similar awards in this area, to recognise all those making a significant impact here, too.”

St Edmundsbury Sports Awards will be held at The Apex, on October 11, while Forest Heath Awards will be held on September 30 at Newmarket Leisure Centre.
