PROMOTION-CHASING Needham Market are determined to make the most of a number of games in hand over the coming weeks.
The Marketmen, who host lowly Leyton tomorrow (ko 3pm) and Ware on Tuesday evening (ko 7.45pm), sit four points off Ryman League Division One North leaders Wingate & Finchley, but with six games in hand, remain one of the favourites to clinch promotion.
With the adverse weather conditions playing havoc on the football programme in recent weeks, Reds boss Danny Laws is keen for his side to return to action as soon as possible and thus avoid a backlog of fixtures after the festive period.
“We want to get back to where we left off, which was a good start to the season,” said Laws. “It looks as though the games will get the go ahead and we have to be ready.
“I keep reminding the players that we have had a good start, but that is all. Leyton have a new manager and with that comes new players and motivation, so they will be tough to beat.
“Sometimes in the Ridgeons League last season, we could get away with mistakes, but at this level, the opposition are always capable of punishing us.”
The Bloomfields-based outfit, who are averaging more than three goals a game so far this campaign, will be light in attack, with both Nathan Stone and Sam Newson out through suspension, as is goalkeeper Danny Gay.
Floyd Croll, who plays in Glasswells St Edmundsbury League, will deputise in between the sticks under a dual registration.
