BROCKLEY entertained Haverhill in a match where the covers spent more time at the wicket than some batsmen.
Haverhill, eyeing the weather conditions, asked Brockley to bat in the expectation they could wind the game up before the first downpour. Fisher's early departure showed the wisdom of their plan. However, J Reed and their overseas player, Pienaar, both got into the 40s before Crouch (56no) played a captain's innings to post a remarkable 193-6.
In relpy, Haverhill had to face two Sykes, with the younger prowling the cover while the elder took four wickets.
With a three-wicket haul from I Reed, Haverhill collapsed to 93-6. At this point, D Poole joined S Youngs for a partnership of 80 that turned the game around. Despite a late rally by the home side, Haverhill secured their victory in the penultimate over.

Ipswich won by three wickets
BROCKLEY lost a hard-fought but sporting match by three wickets.
Brockley, sponsored by Sovereign Financial Services, started positively with openers P Reed (88) and M Blackledge (29) making batting look relatively easy, on a bouncy wicket against fiery but inaccurate fast bowling, in a stand of 100.
Once the Ipswich team introduced their spin twins of J Elford (4-47) and N Johnson (5-32), nine wickets quickly fell and the visitors’ innings fell away to a below par and disappointing 189-9 with only T Fenner (30) coming close to dealing with the hypnotic effects of those twirling fingers and wrists.
The all-seam Brockley attack toiled manfully, but the desperate efforts of their captain to motivate his team were hampered by the unavailability of his two senior slow bowlers. However, despite the lack of variety in the Brockley attack, the young side gave of their best although their cause was not helped by the 21 wides bowled. Brockley’s seam bowlers, J Brame (2-34) and S Rayner (2-23) contributed encouraging spells and T Fenner, displayed the positive side of his complex character with an inspirational all-round performance and constant vocal encouragement of his dispirited peers.
