David Strettle and Andy Gomarsall MBE are the latest players to join a star-studded line-up for the Premier International 7s tournament.
England and Saracens star Strettle and 2003 England World Cup-winning squad member Gomarsall will be guests at the Greene King IPA-sponsored event at The Haberden on Sunday, May 4, while Premiership giants Sale have also entered themselves into the sixth staging of the event.
The elite competition will feature 12 teams, including Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers, as well as international teams such as Belgium and Nigeria.
International players playing for Samurai Barracudas, Apache and Welsh Charitables are also among those in the event and will be hoping to take the coveted title too.
An open competition for local teams, which will include a Bury invitational side, will run alongside a four-team women’s 7s tournament.
Bury St Edmunds club chairman Michael Robinson said: “In just five years the Greene King IPA 7s has developed a reputation as one of the best 7s tournaments on the circuit and this is once again demonstrated by the incredible line-up of teams entered.
“Last year we welcomed over 2,500 spectators to the ground and we are confident to beat that record this year.
“It’s an opportunity for sports fans to watch some of the top players in the 7s game right here in East Anglia.”
A beer festival will kick the weekend off on Friday, May 2, (7pm) and fancy dress is encouraged for spectators with prizes to be given out for the best outfits.
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for under-15s and under-5s go for free, gates open at 9.30am with the first match starting at 10am.
