THE St Edmundsbury Sports Awards have received their first nominee for 2012.
Haverhill Junior Rugby Club have been nominated in the club of the year category by Stacy Garner, a parent of one of the under-7s’ players.
She said: “Neal Denty and all the coaches work really hard to make the sport fun, but at the same time the children are learning.
“My son has only been there since December, but the progression of all the children in those months has been amazing.
“The children go to matches and win, but when they lose they don’t mind because they have just had fun and enjoyed themselves.
“I think all the time and effort all the coaches put into the club, plus all the parent helpers, need to be recognised.”
The awards, run each year by Abbeycroft Leisure, recognise outstanding sporting achievements made by sportsmen, women and juniors throughout the year in the borough of St Edmundsbury.
The award scheme, supported by the Bury Free Press and sister paper Haverhill Echo, is open to all sports enthusiasts and volunteers who are affiliated to a club or school team within St Edmundsbury, or reside within the borough.
There are 14 categories to enter with awards made for: Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Unsung Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Triumph Over Adversity, Coach of the Year, Contribution to Disability Sport, Young Community Volunteer of the Year, Club of the Year, Senior Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, and School of the Year.
Nominations can now be made on the Abbeycroft website at www.acleisure.com and the closing date is midnight on 31 August 2012.
