FANS of the Mildenhall Fen Tigers have been given an early Christmas present after co-promoter Kevin Jolly revealed the outlook for the club looks bright, just seven days after its future was thrown into doubt.
Following crunch talks between Jolly and his fellow co-promoters Chris Louis and Michael Lee, it appears speedway racing at West Row is set to continue in 2012, after a deal was drawn up to pay off an extra fee levied on the club.
Having accepted paying for promotional rights of the club, a dispute between the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) and the management team had broken out over an additional league entry fee.
But now the trio are hoping a compromise can be reached between both parties to ensure last year’s National League Knockout Cup winners make a return to the track in 2012.
“Chris (Louis) is going to be speaking to the BSPA about us offering a split payment for the league entry fee,” said Jolly. The promotional rights cost can be paid right now. We are now just hoping that the BSPA play ball about accepting taking a split payment over the entry fee. I am very, very confident that everything will be ok.”
He added: “The BSPA are the governing authority and we have got to work with them and not against them if we want speedway to be the winner.”
Plans are believed to already be at an advanced stage over who will be the Tigers’ one to seven riders next season with a few changes set to be made.
One new face expected to be arriving at the club is that of former Scunthorpe Saints star Stefan Nielsen, while among those unlikely to be returning are Mark Baseby and Jack Hargreaves.
“Things have verbally been secured for next season and the seven riders we have lined up look very exciting,” added Jolly. “It promises to be a very young side. We have a couple of good young British prospects who are set to come into the bottom end, the sort of riders which we want the club to be all about.”
“Hopefully, if things go to plan, we will be in a position to announce the whole team shortly after the New Year.”
