Bury Town striker John Sands is heading for Wembley after topping the Ryman League Premier Division goalscoring chart.
Sands’ 93rd-minute winner at Lewes on Saturday was the forward’s 26th league goal of the season — three better than Canvey Island’s Bradley Woods-Garness.
The ex-Mildenhall Town front man has netted for the Blues 33 goals this campaign and 52 times in total since making the move from Recreation Way in October 2011.
“It does mean a lot to me,” said Sands, who will receive his award on June 15 at the Hilton Hotel overlooking Wembley Stadium. “It’s a season I won’t forget with my football.
“I said before the start of the season I would be top goalscorer in the league and I am, so I’m pretty happy with that.”
With one match still left this season — the Suffolk Premier Cup final at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road ground on May 14 — Sands is still hoping to add to his tally.
The striker, who was booked for diving in last year’s showpiece with Lowestoft Town, will be hoping for better when Bury meet the same opposition later this month.
“This year could be the year we give it to them if we are all fit,” said Sands. “We’ve got a little break so we can get everybody 100 per cent.
“When we played them at home the other week, we should have beaten them.
“It will be a very good game because they have always been close between us, but with Jack Defty out for them, we should have a bit more firepower.”
Bury finished the season seventh in the Ryman Premier table, four points outside the play-off zone.
