Thetford Town saw a superb fightback end in disappointment as they let three points slip away in the last minute in a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Ely City.
The Brecklanders trailed 2-0 at the break to a header from James Seymour and own goal by Sean O’Donnell, but replacement Steve Harley pulled a goal back before setting up Luke Catchpole to equalise.
Catchpole fired Thetford in front with eight minutes remaining, but Ely snatched a point in the 89th minute when Austen Diaper fired home via the inside of Scott Cruickshank’s post.
In the rugby, it proved a disappointing start to the new year for Stowmarket who slumped to a 31-5 defeat away at leaders Ipswich A in London Two North East.
It was always going to be a difficult fixture for the visitors away at the table toppers and so it proved with the result leaving Nigel Brown’s side second from bottom.
