Diss Town crashed to defeat at the hands of Thetford Town in Saturday’s Norfolk derby in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

Despite leading twice — through Adam Burroughs and Tom Dew — the Brecklanders levelled through former Tangerines Sam Bryant and Matt Dixon before winning it with a 65th-minute penalty from Martin Carter.

Diss goalkeeper James Bergin saved two other penalties, while both sides ended with 10 men when Thetford’s ex-Diss attacker Bruno Tavares and home player Jacob Brown were dismissed for violent conduct.

Stuart Jopling scored his first goal since re-signing for Debenham LC, but could not prevent the Hornets from slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Halstead Town in the First Division.

In rugby, Diss were beaten 69-12 by Luton in London One North to remain entrenched in a relegation battle.

Gary Hooper scored a fantastic volley as Norwich City drew 1-1 with Swansea City in the Barclays Premier League, while Ipswich Town held Nottingham Forest to a goalless draw.
