Sam Newson scored twice on what is expected to be his final appearance for Needham Market.

The ace marksman, brother of Paralympic powerlifting bronze medallist Zoe Newson, admitted it was an emotional day as he bagged a brace in the Marketmen’s 4-1 triumph at struggling Redbridge in Ryman League Division One North.

In the Ryman Premier, Bury Town suffered a devastating 5-1 hammering at Bognor Regis Town, despite John Sands levelling matters at 1-1 in the 55th minute with his 10th goal of the season.

Mildenhall Town missed the chance to move further clear at the top of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division after their clash at Gorleston fell victim to the weather.

There was a nine-goal thriller between Brantham Athletic and Thetford Town that ended 6-3 in the hosts’ favour, despite strikes from John Curtis, Tom Dew and Ryan Skipp.

Walsham-le-Willows won 2-1 at Felixstowe and Walton United to maintain their surprise fourth position by winning their fifth consecutive league match.

In the First Division, Team Bury’s match with Ipswich Wanderers was postponed, while second-bottom Stowmarket Town were crushed 6-0 by title-challenging Cambridge University Press.

In the Barclays Premier League. Norwich City beat Sunderland 2-1 thanks to goals from Sebastien Bassong and Anthony Pilkington.

Ipswich Town moved out of the npower Championship relegation zone thanks to a 2-1 success at Bolton Wanderers, with Michael Chopra scoring a last-minute winner after DJ Campbell’s penalty had cancelled out Mark Davies’ opener for the Trotters.
