Walsham-le-Willows are hopeful of adding former Needham Market right-back Lewis Pemberton to their squad for this season.
The pacy Pemberton has been training with the Willows during pre-season and played the first half of their fixture with Bury Town on Monday night.
Assistant manager John Taylor was pleased with what he saw and is hopeful the Summer Road-based outfit can secure the defender as their third summer signing — following striker Andrew Wood and midfielder Liam Bolton through the door.
“We are hoping to sort that out this week,” said Taylor, whose side led Bury 2-0 at half-time before succumbing to a 4-2 loss. “I hope he’s seen enough because we’ve seen enough of him and would like him to sign — the rest will be up to him.”
Walsham, who have ex-Bury Town defender Roscoe Hipperson on trial, could also move for Nathan Clarke.
Thetford Town have secured the return of two of their former captains, with Sean O’Donnell and Craig Skipp set to bolster Mark Scott’s midfield options.
O’Donnell captained Thetford to promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League First Division in 2011/12, but was posted away by the RAF, causing him to miss last season.
However, he is now back in Norfolk and ready to commit to his old club.
“It’s a huge boost for us,” said manager Scott, who hopes O’Donnell can play a part in Thursday’s home friendly with Lowestoft Town (7.30pm).
Skipp, who had been on trial with the Brecklanders, played in defence as they were beaten 2-0 by Bury Town on Friday night, with the Blues’ goals coming in the second half after a number of changes had been made to both sides.
Centre-half Martin Carter has suffered a broken wrist and is set to miss the start of the season, but striker Wayne Proctor and defender Luke Bailey will get their first minutes of pre-season when the Mundford Road-based outfit host AFC Sudbury XI tonight and Redgate Rangers on Tuesday (both 7.30pm).
New signing Ben Coe impressed as Mildenhall Town kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 win over Hardwick at Girton College on Tuesday.
The ex-Mundford man netted the first of his brace on six minutes, with Kris Thomas also netting a double and Steve Holder the other.
However, the game was abandoned after 80 minutes when Dave Cooper was the victim of a bad tackle and suffered a gash to his leg.
Hall travel to Whitton United on Saturday (3pm) and host Needham Market on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Meanwhile the opening-day Premier Division fixtures have been released with Hall travelling to Diss Town, Thetford visiting Stanway Rovers and Walsham making the trip to Godmanchester Rovers on August 10 (all 3pm).
